(Spark the Change Colorado’s Senior Companions at the February 2020 In-Service Training)
Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month.
ACL selected the theme, “Make Your Mark,” to encourage and celebrate countless contributions that older adults make to our communities. Their time, experience, and talents benefit family, peers, and neighbors every day. Communities, organizations, and individuals of all ages are also making their marks. This year’s theme highlights the difference everyone can make – in the lives of older adults, in support of caregivers, and to strengthen communities.
Spark the Change Colorado’s Empowering Aging Department invites people 55+ to become Senior Companions with the goal of helping other older adults remain living and thriving in their homes and be vibrant, contributing members of their communities. Although the Senior Companion Program has been put on hold while we flatten the COVID-19 curve and can return to service with a high degree of safety for both our Senior Companions and their clients, our Companions continue to reach out to their clients with phone calls, continue to receive training, and continue their willingness to help others.
We salute all older Americans who have made and are still making their unique and lasting contributions to society.
