Spark the Change Colorado is adding a new Volunteer Program, the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), to seven counties across Colorado! The counties are: Alamosa, Huerfano, Los Animas, Montezuma, Park, Jefferson, and Broomfield.
Since 1971, RSVP, one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation for people 55 and over, has matched older adults who are willing to help with local organizations on the front lines of meeting community needs. Food insecurity will be the focus area of service in these seven counties.
To spotlight this exciting new program, we wanted to introduce you to the Team that’s making it happen!
Meet Leanne Mersmann
RSVP Jefferson County Manager
The phrase “Volunteer Coordinator” has been somewhere in Leanne’s job title for the last ten years. Most recently, she managed volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Association. When she first started coordinating volunteers it was in a warehouse at a food bank, so she was a certified forklift operator for several years. She’s no longer certified but attests that she’s still skilled with a pallet jack! In her free time, Leanne volunteers for the Jefferson County Public Library and Girls on the Run. Leanne also enjoys hiking, reading, and hosting a virtual trivia event once a month for all her friends!
Leanne will be joining the Spark the Change Colorado team as the RSVP Manager for Jefferson County. When asked what she’s most excited about with her new role, Leanne shared, “I am most excited to get more connected to the community. I’ve been living in Jefferson County for two years, but one of those was during the pandemic, so I haven’t had the chance to get to know the area just yet.”
Welcome, Leanne, from all of us at the Spark Team! We are so excited to work with you and follow along with all the great work you will do supporting the community of Jefferson County!
