Spark the Change Colorado is adding a new Volunteer Program, the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), to seven counties across Colorado! The counties are: Alamosa, Huerfano, Los Animas, Montezuma, Park, Jefferson, and Broomfield.
Since 1971, RSVP, one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation for people 55 and over, has matched older adults who are willing to help with local organizations on the front lines of meeting community needs. Food insecurity will be the focus area of service in these seven counties.
To spotlight this exciting new program, we wanted to introduce you to the Team that’s making it happen!
Meet Nancy Harris
RSVP Alamosa County Manager
Nancy received a BA in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an MA in Art History from the University of California at Santa Barbara. For the past 6 years, she has engaged directly with volunteers and changemakers through her work as the Manager for a small non-profit organization called the Alamosa Live Music Association. The Alamosa Live Music Association hosts live music events in the San Luis Valley (SLV) and is fueled, largely, by volunteer power!
Through her work with this organization, she shares, “I’ve learned about the strengths of my amazing community and the great work that can be done by volunteers!” Nancy also serves on the board of SLV Pride as the Treasurer and as the 2021 SLV PrideFest Vendor Coordinator. She shares that in these roles, as well, she’s seen how volunteers can make just about anything happen!
Nancy definitely stays busy engaging with and creating a lasting impact in her community, but she still finds time to unwind! In her free time, Nancy is an avid art lover and, in addition to her training as an art historian, is an artist herself! She makes mixed media collages and has shown her work in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. (Go Nancy!)
Nancy will be joining the Spark the Change Colorado team as the RSVP Manager for Alamosa County. When asked what she’s most excited about with her new role, Nancy shared, “I am excited to be a part of the Spark team and as the RSVP Manager for Alamosa County, I am looking forward to getting to serve my local community by focusing on food insecurity and volunteerism.”
Welcome, Nancy, from all of us at the Spark Team! We are so excited to have such an accomplished individual join our team, and we look forward to all the great work you will do supporting the community of Alamosa County!
