The Home Depot Foundation: Building Community through Corporate Activation

by Madison Taylor, Spark Marketing Director

Over 300 Home Depot Volunteers came out to support veterans in the Colorado Springs Community with a large day of service benefitting Mt. Carmel Veteran Services Center.

DID YOU KNOW?: Nearly 60% of companies in the US provide paid time off for volunteering. Additionally, 89% of working Americans believe that companies that sponsor volunteer activities offer a better overall working environment than those that don’t. Employee Volunteering not only provides team building and engagement opportunities for staff, but also increases mental health, physical health, and makes a positive impact on your local community. Now, did you know Spark can help your company provide a managed Day of Service to your employees? We offer a variety of plug and play activities to easily add to any staff retreat, conference, or in-office meeting to step up your Corporate Activation Strategy. We can also work with you to customize and manage a large day of service specific to your organization’s needs. Address a chosen cause, define your desired impact, and let us make the connections you need to create a real, tangible difference in your community!

Still not convinced to take the dive into Corporate Activation and Employee Volunteering for your company? Check out a recent ‘Day of Service Done Right’ with the amazing Home Depot Foundation!

On August 29th, 2023, The Home Depot Foundation held their Annual Community Volunteer Project. Over 350 volunteers showed up in a BIG way to support Colorado Springs Veterans by taking on massive build projects on the site of Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center’s Campus!

Volunteers built planters, seating, shade pergolas, ADA picnic tables, completed landscaping, planting, and mural painting, and built 30 dog beds for the Service Dogs In-Training at Victory Service Dogs, Inc. The newly acquired and updated building on campus will be used to expand Mental Health Services to veterans onsite. Our Mental Wellness Program is proud to partner with Mt Carmel to provide free mental health services in the Pueblo area and are excited to see how we can support in Springs in the future.

All three murals were created by local artist, Leslie Minnis. For those interested in more of her amazing work, contact leslieminnis@aol.com or follow her on LinkedIn. To see transformation videos for each mural, visit our YouTube Playlist!

We were so honored to work as a connector and project manager on this day of transformation, and none of this could have been possible without the amazing partners who showed up and made it happen. THANK YOU to: The Home Depot Foundation, Mt. Carmel Veterans Center, Operation TBI Freedom, Next Chapter, ToolBank Disaster Services, & Victory Service Dogs, Inc.
